This paper studied different ways of using mometasone furoate cream to treat chronic hand eczema over a long period. The researchers compared three different treatment schedules to see which worked best at preventing eczema from coming back.

First, all patients used mometasone cream daily until their eczema cleared or for up to 9 weeks. Then, patients who improved were split into three groups: one group used the cream three times per week, another group used it on weekends only, and the third group stopped using it completely. If eczema came back, patients could use the cream daily for 3 weeks, up to two times.

The study included 120 adults with chronic hand eczema. Of these, 106 patients improved enough to continue to the second part of the study where they were divided into three treatment groups.

The authors concluded that using mometasone furoate cream intermittently (a few times per week) over a long period is both safe and effective for treating chronic hand eczema. This approach helps prevent eczema from coming back while minimizing steroid use.
